Vibe coding is breaking Product Hunt
Since the word “vibe coding” appeared in February 2025, Product Hunt launches have gone from about 3,500 a month to 20,000. Most are weekend builds made with AI coding tools, and most land in a feed nobody reads.

The flood started the month vibe coding got a name
Launches per month: flat for two years, then up sixfold
- 1Feb 2025. Andrej Karpathy coins “vibe coding”: describe the app, let the AI write it. 4,700 launches that month.
- 2Mar 2026. +6,800 launches in one month (+56%), to 19,000.
- 3Jul 2026. The record: 21,487 launches, 534 of them featured.
For two years Product Hunt took about 3,500 launches a month. Growth began within weeks of Karpathy's post and has not paused: 2026 already has 177,000 launches, four times all of 2024. The eight busiest days in Product Hunt's 13 years all fell between June and October 2026, topped by Oct 27 with 1,525 launches.
Product Hunt says so itself: in its Q2 2026 report it names vibe-coding tools as “one major reason” for the rise, and says 61% of AI-category makers were launching there for the first time.
Almost none of it reaches the homepage
Share of launches Product Hunt features: 38% in 2023, 3.6% now
① Feb 2025: “vibe coding” coined.
Product Hunt answered with editors, not gates. Anyone can still post. A small team picks what goes on the homepage, and everything else waits in the “All” feed. The editors did pick more in 2026, from about 400 launches a month to 500–900, but submissions grew many times faster. In July 2026 only 1 in 40 launches was featured. On the record day, 20 of 1,525 were.
| Oct 2024 – Sep 2025 | Oct 2025 – Sep 2026 | Change | |
|---|---|---|---|
| All launches | 69,092 | 183,717 | +166% |
| Featured | 5,348 | 6,999 | +31% |
| Feature rate | 7.7% | 3.8% | halved |
Product Hunt's own launch numbers count only the featured. Its Q2 2026 report counts 2,345 launches. The tracker counts 2,359 featured and 55,349 in total for the same quarter. Product Hunt's +55% is the curated slice, not the flood.
More launches, less attention each
The day's #1 launch now draws about a quarter fewer upvotes than in 2025
① Feb 2025: “vibe coding” coined. Medians per month, featured launches only.
The voters didn't multiply with the makers. In 2024, when Product Hunt featured little, a featured launch got about 160 upvotes. Since August 2026, with the editors featuring more, it gets 86–117. The day's winner fell from a typical 430 votes in 2025 to about 330.
Outside the homepage: one week of every launch (May 4–10, 2026, 3,913 launches)
Upvote medians: featured launches, our count. Distribution: Find Similar Startups (Product Hunt API, week 19 of 2026). 0–1 vote shares and the 1-in-73 rate: Fluenta, September 2026, same launch age.
What vibe coders launch: agents, Mac apps, and tools for other AI coders
We read the name and tagline of every featured launch since January 2023 and counted keywords per quarter. Share of featured launches that…
Say “agent”
Are Mac apps
Name an AI coding tool (Claude Code, Cursor, MCP…)
Are built for AI agents to use
Say “AI”
Say “vibe”
* Q4 2026 is October only. Tagline keyword matches, so the counts miss products that don't say it.
Three shifts stand out. Agents went from a curiosity to a quarter of what gets featured. Native Mac apps, once rare because they were hard to build, went from under 1% to 11%: AI writes Swift as easily as web code. And a new genre appeared, products whose users are other AI coders or the agents themselves: plugins for Claude Code, MCP servers, memory, testing and sandboxes. Meanwhile “AI” itself stopped being a selling point, peaking in mid-2025 and falling since, and “vibe” rarely appears (2% at most): builders use the tools without advertising them.
The new genre, in real featured launches (Jul–Oct 2026)
| Made for | Examples |
|---|---|
| Watching your Claude Code sessions | AgentValley and ilha (in the Mac notch), Clair (from your wrist), Port22 (on your phone) |
| Paying for them | claudebill, LangWatch usage tracking, Peras (“pause before they burn your week”) |
| Keeping you company while they run | claudemon (“wild Pokémon appear while you wait”), Tamamon, Bloblings |
| Agents as the customer | 1Password for Agents, Nitrosend (email for agents), Composio Instant (agents pay for their own tools) |
| Giving agents a place to run | Paddock, CreateOS Sandbox, Maritime (“computers for AI agents, from $1/month”) |
Claude Code overtook Cursor as the tool launches name most
Featured launches per quarter whose name or tagline mentions each tool. Lovable, the best-known app builder for non-coders, barely appears, likely because its users ship consumer apps and don't name the tool.
Product Hunt's own numbers point the same way
Categories that need a team or a supply chain are emptying out. Crowdfunding last had a featured launch in February 2026, and NFTs, digital art and ride-sharing had none in Q2. What grows is what one person with an AI coding tool can ship in a weekend.

What changed, and what didn't
Changed: who launches
First-time makers with weekend builds. About 60% of AI-category makers had never launched before.
Changed: what a launch is worth
Being posted no longer means being seen. Unfeatured, you share a feed with 600–1,500 other launches that day.
Didn't change: the rules
We found no official Product Hunt rule change in the past year. The featured/unfeatured split dates from early 2024.
2026 launch guides say Product Hunt retired “Coming Soon” pages, limits relaunches to one every six months, and discounts coordinated voting. None of them cite Product Hunt, so treat those as unconfirmed.
If you're launching now
| Situation | What the data says |
|---|---|
| Not featured | Expect 0–10 votes. Treat the launch as a link to share, not a source of traffic. |
| Featured | About 100 votes is typical. #1 of the day takes about 300. |
| An AI product | 2.7× likelier to pass 100 votes than a non-AI launch (Fluenta), and the most crowded field. |
| A small category | Ten categories with under 50 launches a quarter beat AI's average upvotes. |
